Why Servo Tying Improves Portion Consistency

Portion consistency is one of the fastest ways a sausage plant loses money—or wins supermarket contracts. When link length drifts, packs look uneven, giveaway rises and casing breaks increase. A modern servo sausage tying machine addresses that problem at the motion-control layer instead of asking operators to “feel” every adjustment.
Servo motors hold position with fine resolution, so link length set on the touchscreen stays repeatable from the first batch to the last. Compared with purely mechanical cams, servo recipes make it easier to switch between snack links and longer frankfurter formats without lengthy mechanical rebuilds. Plants that run multiple SKUs in one day feel this difference immediately.
Fewer casing breaks usually follow better tension control. When acceleration and deceleration are smoother, natural, collagen and cellulose casings experience less shock at the tying head. Combined with adjustable thread tension, that reduces stoppages and scrap—especially on thinner diameters.
Integration with an upstream hydraulic sausage filler also improves. Stable tying speed lets the filler discharge more evenly, which supports weight control before the tying machine even starts. Many factories therefore evaluate filler and tying machine as one cell rather than as two isolated machines.
